New Ways to Save on Your Dream Wedding

Tulle and flowers, bliss and bills. ‘Tis wedding season, and the bad news for brides-to-be is the average wedding costs around £18,000. The good news is there are tonnes of creative ways to save money and still have the wedding of your dreams.

What is Most Important to You?

Priorities make planning so much easier. Pick 3-5 items in your wedding that you want to spurge on. For example, if I ever get married, I would love a Cinderella-inspired dress. I also want a superb photographer to preserve the special day. If you can’t imagine not having a sparkling limousine to whisk you and your new hubby away after the ceremony, put that down on your list. There’s no right and wrong. It’s your day!

As for the countless other wedding details, don’t sweat it. Here are some great tips to help save a bunch:

DIY projects. There are tons of ways to get creative with your décor, but here’s an important one. A florist told me the most expensive floral arrangements in a wedding are the table centerpieces because they really add up.

Aunt Who?

Narrowing down your guest list is probably the best way of lowering your wedding costs. I’ve been to low-budget weddings with over 300 guests and lavish weddings with less than 100 guests. Providing food, drink, and entertainment for your guests on your big day will always leave you with a bill at the end, but it’s worth it as long as you select the right people.

Who is important in your life right now? That’s the key question you should ask yourself as you agonize whether or not to leave out that friend who was close to you years ago or that great aunt you haven’t seen in a decade.
