You can live many years in a city and never partake of all the cool things that go on there. Take it from someone who knows. Become a tourist in your own city, and do some of the lesser-known activities such as eating at one of London’s newer restaurants or taking a romantic boat ride in the park.
1. Watch the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace
The Ceremonial Guard is our country’s pride and joy. The special Changing of the Guard ritual is a sight to behold, and you must see it at least once in your lifetime. Take a trek to Buckingham Palace for 11:30 in the morning, and you can see the ceremony for free. Please note that it goes on every other day, so check the schedule before you go.
2. See the herds of wild deer at Bushy Park
The park was used by Henry VIII as a royal hunting ground, and to this day, approximately 320 deer roam the grounds. Pack some sun cream, a water bottle, and a hat, and spend a leisurely Saturday strolling through the park. Bring your camera to snap photos of the picturesque Waterhouse Woodland Park, and if you have kids, bring them to the playground to play in the sand or on the swings. If you’re quiet, you might spot a few deer!
3. Stop for a snack at Counter Culture
When I’m out exploring or meeting up with friends, I usually need to stop to re-fuel because the tank doesn’t stay full for long. Drop by one of London’s newest snack bars, Counter Culture, to grab an inexpensive but gourmet plate of food. While their menu is limited, the food is top-rated. Dine on delicacies like beef tartare, salad cream, and caviar for just £8.50!
4. Rent a row boat in Hyde Park
Need a romantic date idea for you and your boyfriend or spouse? Enjoy a picnic and a cosy little row boat ride on the Serpentine river in Hyde Park. Not a fan of rowing? No problem! You can choose a pedal boat or even the Solarshuttle that requires no effort on your part. Rentals start at £5 for children to £12 for adults. You can even get group deals!
